The Ad Council: A History of Social Impact
Ever since its foundation in 1942, the Ad Council, together with its allies in the realms of advertising, media, marketing, and technology, has orchestrated some of the United States’ landmark social impact initiatives.
These include the emblematic campaigns of Smokey Bear, the educational thrust of "A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Waste," the inclusivity drive "Love Has No Labels" and the vocational initiative "Tear the Paper Ceiling."
Currently turning its attention to pivotal subjects such as mental health, gun violence prevention, the opioid crisis, and hate & bias, the Ad Council's extensive campaigns are multifaceted, covering the creation of content for media and advertising, local and communal actions, collaborations with credible voices and influencers, as well as innovative workforce programs. These diverse approaches are part of the Ad Council's strategy to forge significant progress on today's most urgent societal issues.
